Speaking at:

Crowdfunding: a new way of doing things

Nesta (National Endowment for Science, Technology and the Arts), an independent charity that works to increase the innovation capacity of the UK, works through a combination of practical programmes, investment, policy and research, and the formation of partnerships.

Stian Westlake joined Nesta in 2009, and now leads the company’s Policy and Research team, which develops new insights into how innovation works and influences policy and practice to make it happen.

Before this, Westlake worked in social venture capital at The Young Foundation, making and managing investments in a range of social enterprises and founding Healthy Incentives, an innovative health venture. He also spent five years at McKinsey & Company in Silicon Valley and London, where he provided strategic advice to a range of private and public sector clients, focusing on healthcare, technology, and corporate and infrastructure finance.

More recently, Westlake contributed to The Venture Crowd, a report by Nesta that explored and analysed the crowdfunding model, and its future potential in the business finance landscape.

Westlake holds a first-class BA (Hons) from the University of Oxford and a Masters in Finance with Distinction from London Business School. He also pursued graduate work in economics and government at Harvard University as a Kennedy Memorial Scholar.

Stian Westlake will be speaking at Real Business Funding, the free conference to illuminate the new, more plural funding environment for growing SMEs. Join us on March 15, 2013, at the British Library, and join the discussion on Twitter at #unleashingfinance.
