Susan is widely recognised as the leading litigation funder in the UK. Litigation Funding involves a third party funding the costs of a piece of litigation in return for a share of the proceeds if it is successful. Susan has originated and managed over 110 litigation funding cases, totaling over £2bn in claim value, since 2002.
She has worked as a commercial litigator in both the UK (for Wragge and Co) and the US (where she worked both for Paul Hastings and as a diplomat for three years, generating inward investment into the UK from the seven South-Eastern States).
In 2006, Susan was pivotal in the Civil Justice Council report which endorsed litigation funding and led to the recent (2011) Code of Conduct in England and Wales for Litigation Funders. She is a founding director of The Association of Litigation Funders.
In 2007 she co-founded Harbour Litigation Funding and has, in the past ten years, reviewed over 1500 cases for funding. In May 2012, Harbour raised an additional fund of £120m for the funding of commercial litigation, taking its funds for investing in litigation to £180m, making it the UK’s largest funder. Harbour currently funds cases in England, the Channel Islands, the USA, New Zealand and the Caribbean as well as ICC, LCIA and ICSID arbitrations and manages a portfolio of over $2bn of claims.
Susan Dunn will be speaking at Real Business Funding, the free conference to illuminate the new, more plural funding environment for growing SMEs. Join us on March 15, 2013, at the British Library, and join the discussion on Twitter at #unleashingfinance.
