Click and collect will be the death of retail. At least, that’s the prevailing view aired in a recent article on the BBC news website.
As Argos's parent company, Home Retail Group (HRG), announced its annual results, it also revealed its plans to launch 200 new digital stores for the coming year. More intriguing though, was the confirmation that customers are still fond of the classic Argos catalogue.
With shares on the FTSE 100 hiting a new peak, among the more prominent names on the list was luxury fashion house Burberry – a company which has seen its stock price jump 2.5 per cent following a nine per cent growth in same-store sales.
According to research commissioned by Barclays, retailers say they are set to see growth of 49 per cent in Click & Collect orders over Christmas, on top of the impressive growth seen last year, which saw 5.7m consumers using Click & Collect during the week of Christmas in 2013.
