Telling the truth about SME life today

Tesco CEO orders CFO to work in stores

You would think newly-appointed Tesco CFO Alan Stewart would already have a full plate looking after the ongoing investigation of Tesco’s accountancy practices. But CEO Dave Lewis has now emailed all of his top staff to notify them that they must work in stores, too, in order to help improve service and morale.

Tesco CFO Alan Stewart and CEO Dave Lewis will spend alternate Thursdays and Fridays in shops.

The initiative, called “Feet on the Floor”, will require 4,000 corporate employees to work one day every fortnight between now and Christmas in a store selected from a list across the UK.

Lewis is trying to restore confidence in the supermarket after revealing it overstated its half-year profits by 250m.

The Financial Conduct Authority has notified the grocer it will be looking into the incident, alongside an independent review by Tesco’s accountants Deloitte. Tesco said it will continue to co-operate fully with the FCA and other relevant authorities considering the matter.
