Telling the truth about SME life today

The furniture woman who never goes anywhere

Plough through larger number of emails than usual, including excellent news that Moonlight Walk in aid of teenage cancer, which we sponsored, has raised a still increasing total of £27,000. Extremely nice to be giving something back, even in a small way.     Also contains complete rash of September events and networking invitations. This includes directive email from landlord telling me we have taken a stand in local town hall exhibition, which we haven’t – and which I point out – though he indulges himself, as usual, by telling me I am wrong. As happens every year, I do, however, make resolution to go to quite a few dos and duly respond. I do this every year, for some strange reason believing that autumn will change the habits of a lifetime.     Have discovered am best known on the local business networking circuit as the furniture woman who never goes anywhere at all! Honestly find jury is still out in this local networking lark. None of our customers are local. There is genuinely no business to be got from it in the area and if we need suppliers, I can pick up a phone and investigate. I have a couple of incredibly high-powered business girlfriends whose advice I know I could trust to bounce ideas off, plus a business coach. Find it really, really hard to know how I will benefit by stressing myself out finding time I don’t have go and drink fruit juice or one glass of second-rate wine talking to a lot of strangers I will never see again.

Or am I just horrendously antisocial?
