Formed in 1991, Foundation Developments is a privately-owned civil engineering, groundworks and reinforced concrete frame contractor. The business, operating from its head office in Wallington, Surrey, is divided into five core businesses; Foundation Developments; FDL Rail and Special Projects; Woldingham Homes; Barking Riverside Park Recycling Park; P Hickey Plant Hire and P Hickey Labour supply. Woldingham Homes, which focuses on London and the South East, is a subsidiary of Foundation Developments, and has been recognised as one of the south-east’s eminent groundwork and civil engineering contractors. The subsidiary suggested that its strong connections with landowners, residential agents, RSL’s and consultants enabled it to liaise with those who act as the primary sources for land identification. This, in turn, has given Woldingham the opportunity to concentrate only on the areas that will meet current demand, and thus boost its growth. Furthermore, Barking Riverside Park Recycling Park (BRRP), established in 2007 in order to tap into a gap in the market, has enabled the company to cut down on costs. The park’s main focus is to regain secondary aggregates through soil washing and concrete crushing for re-use within construction projects in the neighbouring areas. This has allowed Foundation Developments to effectively use its own materials. The company suggested that the benefit that the facility has provided to projects within Barking Riverside estate is the ability to provide recycled aggregates with the delivery distance being less than one mile in each direction, and the majority of these journeys from BRRP to the site are on private site roads. Foundation is also a member of SpeCC (Registration Scheme for Specialist Concrete Contractors), and all FDL employees are expected to hold Construction Skills Certification Scheme cards.
