Top ten companies for leadership

1 Mins

What are the best European companies for leadership? Management consulting firm Hay Group has just released its annual Best Companies for Leadership Study.

We’ll spare you the pages and pages of management-speak that came with the press release (mostly boring stuff about “hierarchical operating models”, “flatter organisations” and a lot about “development tools”), and dive straight into the results.

All the usual suspects are there, with household product maker Unilever ranking first and Vodaphone at the bottom of the top ten list.

Top ten best companies for leadership in Europe:

  1. Unilever
  2. Banco Santander
  3. Telefonica
  4. Deutsche Bank
  5. HSBC Holdings
  6. Repsol YPF
  7. Volkswagen
  8. L’Oreal
  9. Danone
  10. Vodafone

In terms of geography, Britain only has one company in the list, HSBC’s Stuart Gulliver; while France and Spain have two CEOs each in the list.

But even more depressingly, a quick check of the company’s CEOs shows that all ten of these middle-aged men – no women are to be found at the top.

Hmm…
