When it comes to luxury we all tend to think of transportation first, from a trip on the Belmond British Pullman to a few cheeky drinks in a limousine. But what if you could have a ride in a Cobalt Valkyrie-X private plane? American luxury department store Neiman Marcus is known for its awe-inspiring fantasy gift collections – none of which are affordable for anyone but the wealthy. It doesn’t prevent us from taking a peek at the catalogue every once in a while though. For example, 2001 saw it offer people a made-to-order submarine for $20m, while 2004 promised the unique opportunity to purchase a modernised 1900s style zeppelin for $10m. This year is no different, with its Christmas edition offering four people the chance to go on a private quarterback camp with retired American football star Joe Montana. But what if the company offered a more affordable experience, and what if you had a client that would soon be on a visit to the US? It’s not an impossible idea. If that’s the case, then why not try the firm’s listed Cobalt Valkyrie-X private plane opportunity – the plane itself is in rose gold to boot. According to Neiman Marcus: “Behold the conveyance that will convey its recipient’s polished taste: a rose-gold private plane. It is also just the thing if time is of the essence. The Cobalt Valkyrie-X, brainchild of aerospace engineer and Cobalt founder David Loury, will be one of the fastest piston aircraft in the world when it debuts in 2017. “With a shape that is raindrop sleek and a 350-horsepower engine, the Valkyrie-X will whisk its pilot and three passengers along at speeds of up to 230 miles per hour, with a range of up to 1,150 ground miles. This is a premium way to fly. “The main structure is high-performance carbon composite, the flight controls feature full pushrod-bellcrank precision mechanisms, and the retractable landing gear is machined from solid alloys of aluminum and stainless steel. The private-club interior boasts hand-stitched leather seats and suede-like Alcantara, plus plentiful storage for golf clubs, skis, and suitcases. “The shapely Valkyrie-X, inspired by classic fighter jets and built entirely in California, will also have the largest one-piece canopy in the world, providing breathtaking vistas for pilot and passengers alike.” This sleek aircraft comes with a hefty price tag: $1.5m
