Name:UK Energy Partners Industry/sector: Construction Date founded: 2011 Founder: Neil Gething and Neil Smith Location: London UK Energy Partners designs, constructs, retrofits and maintains buildings to improve their energy performance. While there is no shortage of expensive consultants to advise on the subject, UK Energy Partners are adamant that “there was no company providing a turnkey solution to enable private and public sector organisations to painlessly invest in energy efficiency measures”. For most organisations, the money to fund the necessary energy conservation measures is, very likely, already in the budget and being spent on wasted energy. Energy efficiency in buildings can be achieved through a range of alternative conservation measures and technologies, but the message is simple – use less. However, this has to be cost-effective for any organisation, and must generate measurable and sustained returns through energy cost savings. Crucially, energy efficient technology has developed – and importantly production costs have fallen – to the point where it does exactly that.
One of UK Energy Partners’ core propositions is “to help clients fund the capital cost of these new buildings, up-grades and installations – through public and private sector borrowing.”
“The funding process can be complex and we found a strong niche for our turnkey service within the education sector where the building estate is broadly in dire need of energy efficiency improvement and where there are public sector funds available to finance these works but where the compliance process is onerous,” the business said. UK Energy Partners have quickly become the go-to energy efficiency provider within the education sector, having completed over 200 upgrade schemes within over 130 schools and colleges over the last three years. UK Energy Partners have also developed a multi-award-winning building design for schools – Schoolhaus. “We have now built nine out of ten of the most energy efficient school buildings in the UK with a radically energy efficient design and a disruptively alternative delivery model whereby we design, plan, construct and maintain these buildings at a fraction of the cost of traditional building services,” the company explained. “We aim to at least double in size for the next few years as we take on the large, traditional builders with a new methodology – off-site manufacturing as a prelude to ultra quick on-site construction – which will continue to drive down the cost of delivering super efficient, contemporary building solutions.” By Shané Schutte
