The UK's best places to work in 2018, as decided by employee reviews

Britain’s top companies for work in 2018 have been revealed, with Glassdoor’s annual Employees’ Choice Awards deciding the outcome.

The UK’s best places to work are based on employee reviews that voluntarily left on job site Glassdoor this year. Factors that determine the ranking of UK’s best places to work include a review on the job itself, work environment and employer overall.

Although Glassdoor’s breakdowns took place globally and factored in SME and large businesses, the UK study only reviewed businesses with 1,000 or more staff.

According to the research, the top ten of UK’s best places to work in 2018, are.

(1) Google – 4.5 rating

“Culture – sharing culture where everyone in different departments will work collaboratively. People – excellent, bright, ambitious individuals to work with. Salary – good high salary. Benefits – this includes food, medical, dental, travel expenses, stock.”

(2) Anglian Water – 4.4 rating

“Anglian Water really does put its employees at the heart of what it does. If you are looking for job satisfaction, reward and enjoyment, this is an ideal company to work for.”

(3) Bromford – 4.4 rating

“Colleagues with positive attitudes, development opportunities, flexible working approach, great systems and the right tools to do the job all in a supportive environment.”

(4) Facebook – 4.4 company rating

“Everyone on the team is driven by an absolute ambition to make the world a better a place. The teams are collaborative, creative and welcoming to new ideas. The company is driven by impact and moving fast, so if you’ve got an idea you’ve got room to make a real impact.”

(5) Salesforce – 4.4 company rating

“Extremely flexible, challenging in a good way, extremely innovative. A great internal support structure, decent transparency for a large organization. This is a group of VERY intelligent, very motivated people.”

(6) Lookers – 4.3 company rating

“They hire the right people, who are friendly and very proactive. The investment in their people is hard to rival and no two days are ever the same!” — Lookers Employee (Manchester, England)

(7) Rentokil Initial – 4.3 company rating

“Excellent training programme for Sales and Service staff across all businesses under the Rentokil Initial umbrella. Opportunities for staff progression and promotion as part of the talent for tomorrow. Excellent incentives and staff recognition acknowledgements for outstanding achievements.”

(8) Hiscox – 4.3 company rating

“Engaging, intelligent people surrounding you and opportunities to develop yourself with driven, bright people that have been successful in their careers with Hiscox. Lots of autonomy, you are treated like an adult and trusted to get your job done.”

(9) Apple – 4.3 company rating

“Great HR team, they adapt to your own person very quickly and are very considerate in regards to help when you need it. Acknowledgement for achievements is second to none.”

(10) HomeServe UK – 4.3 company rating

“A very special culture. A lot of businesses claim to have created a “family like” feel. HomeServe truly has. I have a real sense of belonging, people at all levels genuinely care about the customers and each other.”

As the top ten demonstrates, the UK’s best places to work can’t be determined by sector, with tech, housing, insurance, energy and trades among the top ten. Further diversity of industries was diverted among the top 50 of UK’s best places to work, with companies in retail, education, gambling, food and drink and more included.
