Unwinding from the startup environment with Netflix and chill

For one of our previous Black Cab Entrepreneurs interviews, we were joined by Jack Beaman and Novo Abakare, the co-founders of Syft, a rising recruitment app thriving from its startup environment.

According to Abakare, the startup environment is key for his productivity. For me the ideal working environment is essentially the startup working environment.

“I didn?t know beforehand, coming from a financial background, but within a startup environment you have a very small team of people all dedicated to achieving the same goal.

Whereas if you’re part of a big corporate entity, you get absorbed by the fabric of that company.

Indeed, the startup environment is incredibly important for a company and even as a firm grows, that mentality should remain intact. The founder of Coffee Republic Sahar Hashemi revealed as much, having realised that a corporate attitude isn’t required just because a business is achieving scale.

Scale certainly looks to be on the cards for Syft. The recruitment service is currently achieving growth on the back of a £2.65m investment round supported by heavyweight boxer-cum-angel investor David Haye.

?Supporting British entrepreneurs is really important to me, especially those who are the driving force behind tech and growth-focused businesses,” he said.

“I not only invested in Syft’s vision, but I also recognised the company’s work ethic and dedication to success.

The app provides hospitality companies with the opportunity to find temp staff at a lower rate than normal, while recruits receive a higher rate of pay than they would through other channels ?An average of ?9.30 an hour.

With London the starting point, the company has also rolled out into Manchester and Beaman wants to replicate the model across cities to prove value to investors.

Find out what the guys have to say about the startup environment they?ve forged, the Netflix (and chill) unwinding methods and more in the video below.
