Sheryl Sandberg, Facebook’s chief operating officer, gave a great talk at a TED conference this month.
At the TED:Women conference, Facebook’s Sheryl Sandberg asks why aren’t there more women leading in business?
If you have the time, it’s worth watching Sheryl Sandberg’s TED speech (it’s about 15 minutes long) – you can watch it below.
Otherwise, here are Sheryl Sandberg’s three main points:
Sit at the table. Women need to be more assertive. Too many women are passive or insecure. They need to be more confident and aggressive. (The challenge? While aggressive men are liked, aggressive women tend to be disliked.)
Make your partner a real partner. If women have husbands, make sure they’re helping equally at home. Too often women are working twice as hard at home as their male counterparts. This makes it harder to work at your job.
Don’t leave before you leave. Always keep your foot on the gas pedal. Don’t start thinking about leaving your job to have a child as it will hold you back. Just charge full steam ahead from the word go. What happens will happen.
