The announcement will come in full this Thrusday in San Francisco, although the watch has been promoted by Will.i.am in interviews and on The Voice.
It is believed the device will run on Android, Google’s operating system.
Part of the software package of this new device has been created by UK firm 7digital, a B2B music services company. While the details are scant – 7digital has told Real Business that they will “reach the market in due course” – it is likely to be a consumer app for music.
Besides, music contracts for distribution on the watch have been said to emphasise the benefit for the records label – making them distinct from other music services.
This new smart watch is said to be distinct from the recently announced Apple watch. The watch does not require a phone to send and receive calls.
