What they do:
Event booking app
First up: check out this list of investors. We have serial entrepreneur Brent Hoberman (co-founder of lastminute.com), Sherry Coutu (advisory boardmember for LinkedIn), Andy Phillips (booking.com), Tom Hulme (IDEO), Peter Read (Songkick), Gi Fernando (Techlightenment), Robert Linney (Chemical Brothers), and BaltCap (the largest VC fund in the Baltics).
And what are these luminaries investing in? YPlan allows users to book concert tickets really quickly on their mobiles. Whether it’s going to see Kanye West, an invitation-only event such as Sofar Sounds or one of London’s best-kept secrets like chessboxing, YPlan has it covered. YPlan offers consumers a personalised, social, curated and convenient booking option to purchase tickets at the last minute – hence the name (“Why plan?”).
The company is refining the concept via mobile app A/B testing, concurrently running over 2,000 versions of the same app at once to test user behaviour. YPlan has had over 200,000 downloads in just over five months. It has run over 1,500 events with over 350 partners, including Sadler’s Wells, The Roundhouse, The Barbican, The Comedy Store and the O2 Arena. In the App Store, 404 out of their 442 reviews are five stars – that’s 95 per cent! No wonder the list of investors is so gilded.
