Profits spike at Ironmongery Direct

Ironmongery Direct, multi-channel retailer of ironmongery products, today announced profits of £1m double last year’s amounts. Turnover is up 25 per cent from 2010 to £12.5m.

Ironmongery Direct caught our eye last year, when they were nominated for a Growing Business Awards. Shortlisted in the Customer Excellence category, here was a business not only achieving outstanding growth, but going the extra mile for its customers.

Ironmongery Direct knows that commercial builders, maintenance contractors, shop-fitters, joiners and property developers face a common challenge: ironmongery is one of the final tasks in the building schedule, so they?re often under pressure to complete the job, risking penalties if they run late.

But Ironmongery Direct offers them a solution: more than 11,500 specialist ironmongery products available for next-day delivery. So clients can order products from the user-friendly website at the last minute and have them delivered to their home, office or building site the next day.

Ironmongery Direct is constantly investing in new customer-response systems, and it’s paying off Ironmongery Direct secures 600 new clients per week and customers generated from referral increased by 67 per cent last year. A whopping 30,000 new tradesmen used Ironmongery Direct for the first time in 2010.

MD Wayne Lysaght-Mason, comments: “This is an immense result for us. This past year has been difficult for the industry, but offering flexibility, technical expertise and a reliable next-day delivery service has answered what our market needs, and has kept customers returning.

Online turnover also grew considerably to £4.3m an increase of 40 per cent on 2009. We have succeeded in our sixth year of consecutive growth. We want to hit £50m turnover in four years” time,” says Lysaght-Mason.
