The Daily Mail reported that the Learning and Skills Council (LSC) paid just under £5m in bonuses this year on top of salaries – even though the body is subject of an investigation into financial irregularities.
The group, which overseas the provision of state subsidies to learning institutions, paid bonuses to all but 400 of it’s 3,500 staff.
According to the Mail its chief executive Mark Haysom pocketed more than £35,000 in extras despite his poor performance at the helm.
Over seven years the group has paid out almost £30m in bonuses; a figure which critics are calling “grotesque”. The body has an annual budget of more than £10bn.
