COVID-19: Two-thirds of UK workers want to continue WFH even when lockdown laws lift

Over two-thirds of Britons are hesitant to give up their work from home privileges once lockdown laws have been lifted.

As the UK enters its 77th day of official government lockdown many offices are still yet to re-open and return to their normal function. However, a new study by Skillcast, the UK’s largest independent e-learning and compliance training firm, has revealed that Brits are not in any rush to return to workplace.

Their research showed that 68% of respondents want to continue working from home (WFH) even when lockdown laws have been abolished.

The news comes as the country slowly transitions out of quarantine. On June 15th Borris Johnson will permit all “non-essential” retailers to open. The Prime Minister is reportedly in a rush to get the UK out of the coronavirus lockdown after being told that 3,500,000 jobs could be at risk.

Despite this announcement, those in the corporate sector do not have an official date set in stone for when they can begin to return to the office.

However many are finding that WFH has allowed for them to find a better work-life balance, with 42% of people finding that they can focus on their physical health more and spend time with family members.

In addition, 70% claim that they can be as productive when WFH as in the office. There also appears to be a generational difference between those who favour home working, with millenials less keen to return to the traditional workplace than older colleagues.

“With this survey, we uncovered the readiness, attitudes and vulnerabilities of employees WFH in Britain today” commented Vivek Dodd, co-founder of Skillcast?

he continues..

“What strikes us most is the level of confidence, 70% of employees across all company sizes, regions, industry sectors, ages and genders say that they can be as productive WFH as in the office. This suggests that WFH should be seen as a viable alternative even after the current Covid-19 crisis abates
