Telling the truth about SME life today

Name: Robert Hill

Age: 33

Company: The Stag Company, Henheaven and Eventa

Turnover: ?7.5m. I employ 40 staff

First job: I spent 13 years old working as a bakery assistant for a whopping £2 per hour.

Dream job: Playing football for Brighton and Hove Albion.

Car: Audi A6 s-line.

Economy, business or first class: Business.

Most extravagant purchase: My villa in Ibiza. It was expensive but well worth it!

Most played song on iPod: “Eye of the Tiger”

Best business book: Losing my Virginity by Richard Branson.

Worst business moment: Bouncing a few cheques in the early days and being days away from going bust.

Proudest business moment: Becoming the largest stag and hen operator in the UK after years of living in the shadows of our larger competitors. My “never-say-die” attitude has battled us through and now the business is in a very healthy shape with lots of new growth opportunities. I still love what I do.

Business mentor: Richard Branson. If you are having bad day and looking for some inspiration, then read his book.

Next big thing: I never stop thinking about new business ventures in untapped niche markets that require little startup capital.
